Why would you expect there to be a smaller biomass of big predators (lions, leopards, hunting dogs, etc.) than of grazing mammals (gazelles, zebra, elephants, etc.) in the African savanna?

    like domestic cats, large predators are susceptible to hair balls
    many predators occur in social groups, thus limiting their numbers
    too little cover for the predators to hide in
    because grazers are better adapted to moving long distances, they can better follow the rains
    the inefficiency of energy transfer between trophic levels
