What benefit does administration of genetically engineered human insulin provide to patients that pig/bovine insulin does not?

There was no benefit; the nucleotide sequence that determines the structure of insulin is the same in all three species.
Allergic reactions were avoided by using the recombinant human insulin.
It could be produced in large quantities using bacteria/yeast genetically engineered to carry the human insulin gene.
Both the second and third answers are correct.
