The base component of the dNTP hydrogen binds to the next base in the opposite chain.

The 3' carbon of the DNA chain forms a covalent linkage with the phosphate group on the 5' end of the dNTP.

The triphosphate group of the dNTP binds to the base of the DNA chain.

The 5' carbon of the dNTP binds to the 3' carbon of the chain.
