The yest genes x and y are syntenic but it is not known whether they are linked. You mate an α mating type yeast with the genotype x+y- to an a mating type yeast with the genotype x-y+ to create an α/a diploid. You allow 50 diploid cells to sporulate and produe asci and then examine the asci. You find that 40 are PD (parental ditype), 8 are TT (tetratype), and 2 are NPD (nonparental ditype).
