A body’s weight varies inversely with the square of its distance from the center of the earth?

If a chicken weighs 12 pounds when it is 5,000 miles from the earth’s center, how much will the chicken weigh when it is 10,000 miles from the earth’s center.

The chicken weighs 12 pounds and the distance is  5,000. Then when you double the distance (now at 10,000) you must quarter the weight. (Basically divide the original weight (12 pounds) by four.

12/4 = 3

Answer. At 10,000 mi the chicken will weigh a total of 3 pounds

When u start ,the weight is 12 Pounds, and when you Double the distance u have to quarter the weight, because

 1/2^2  is  1/4.  12*1/4 = 3

3 pounds.
