To find the average acceleration first add the vectors up.  Imagining its a triangle, we can use:

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

a = 4

b = 3

so plugging in the equation we get that c = 5.

However we are finding the average acceleration so we must divide by 2:

5/2 = 2.5

Therefore choice 4 is correct.
