Why are most iron oxidizing bacteria acidophilic?

0 votes
Ferric ion is insoluble at neutral pH, thus it is only found at acid pH.
Most oxic environments are very acidic.
Most anoxic environments are very acidic.
At neutral pH, ferrous iron rapidly oxidizes by non-biological processes; thus it is only available for oxidation by bacteria at acid pH.
